Palestinians, activists launch anti-wall campaign

RAMALLAH (Ma’an) — Hundreds of Palestinians and foreign activists gathered at the Qalandia checkpoint north of Jerusalem on Saturday to launch a campaign urging the international community to implement a International Court of Justice ruling to demolish the separation wall.

The campaign is being supported by popular committees and local organizations across Palestine, as well as by a number of foreign activists who managed to enter Palestine recently as part of the ‘flytilla’ campaign.
A member of the preparatory committee for the National and International campaign Salah Al-Khawaja told Ma’an that this action is just the beginning of a series of popular protests against the Israeli apartheid system, which aims to isolate occupied Jerusalem and its population from the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Israeli policies to isolate Jerusalem will never succeed against the will of the Palestinian people, he added.
In 2004, the International Court of Justice ruled that the separation wall was illegal and “tantamount to annexation”.
Israel began constructing the separation wall in 2002.
Eighty five percent of the wall runs through the West Bank annexing significant areas of Palestinian land.
